The Story of Busan Soju –
A Dream Coming Home
Soju has been a part of Korean life for over 700 years. Its origins trace back to the 13th century, when distillation techniques were introduced to Korea during the Mongol invasions. Korean artisans began crafting a clear rice spirit — smooth, refined, and perfect for sharing. Over the centuries, soju evolved into Korea’s most beloved drink, deeply woven into its culture of togetherness, hospitality, and celebration.
Busan Soju was born from both this heritage and a personal journey.
Our founder was born in Busan, a dynamic coastal city where tradition meets innovation. At the age of four, he came to the Netherlands, far from the sights, sounds, and flavors of Korea. But the memory of those moments — family dinners, celebrations, and shared glasses of soju — stayed with him.
In 2025, driven by a deep connection to his roots and a desire to share Korea’s spirit with the world, he launched Busan Soju.
Crafted with care, Busan Soju is artisanal and authentic — made using traditional Korean distillation methods, the finest rice, and pure water. It’s a modern expression of an ancient tradition, created for people everywhere to connect, celebrate, and share.

We use only the finest short-grain rice, selected for its purity and smooth fermentation qualities. The water we use is crystal-clear and mineral-balanced, echoing the natural spring waters traditionally used in Korea. Our fermentation and distillation processes are based on time-honored Korean methods, refined to meet the highest standards of quality and consistency.
